A typical week — make it yours

£900 fares & tips, 48 hours online, 650 miles, £250 rental, £90 charging or fuel, £20 other costs:

Your real £/hour: £11.25

£540 weekly take after £360 of costs — and those 650 miles are worth £292.50 at HMRC's 45p rate come tax time. The interactive calculator on this page runs your own numbers, free and with no sign-up.

What you get

Your real rate is lower than the fare

Uber's service fee comes off first — then fuel or charging, rental, insurance and cleaning. The calculator above shows the gap once; the app tracks it for every shift you drive.

The 45p you're probably ignoring

HMRC lets drivers claim 45p a mile for the first 10,000 miles when they own the car. 650 miles a week is £292.50 of expenses — worth knowing before you judge your hourly rate. Renting? Claim the rental instead.

One week is a bad sample

A rainy Tuesday and a Friday surge average out. Weekly numbers in the app show which hours and areas actually pay you best — so you stop guessing when to log on.

Tax day stops being scary

The same logs that work out your real rate become a tax-year summary of income and expenses — sorted long before 31 January.

Straight answers

How do I work out my real hourly rate as an Uber driver?

Take the week's fares and tips, subtract Uber's service fee, fuel or charging, vehicle rental and any other costs, then divide by the hours you were online — including the waiting between trips. The calculator above does exactly that.

How much does Uber take from each fare?

Uber's service fee varies trip to trip — often around a quarter of the fare, sometimes more or less. It shows in your weekly statement; your own per-shift logs tell you what it means for your hourly rate.

Is this pay calculator free?

Yes — the calculator is free and needs no sign-up. If you want the same sums done automatically for every shift, ShiftMetrics has a 7-day free trial.

Does it work for Bolt and FreeNow too?

The maths is identical — fares minus costs, divided by hours — and the app tracks Uber, Bolt and FreeNow shifts together.
